The Freedom of Letting Go: Surrendering to God

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
— 1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)
We often think that strength means holding everything together, managing our problems on our own, and pressing on without showing weakness. But in God's Kingdom, strength often looks like surrender.
In recovery, we reach a breaking point—not because we’ve failed, but because we finally realize that we cannot do it alone. That moment of release, when we finally say, "God, I can’t, but You can," is not the end—it’s the beginning of true healing.
Surrender isn't giving up—it's giving over.
God doesn’t ask us to fix ourselves before coming to Him. He invites us just as we are—wounded, weary, and worn. When we cast our cares on Him, we acknowledge our limitations and embrace His limitless grace. We let go of the illusion of control and find rest in His sovereignty.
1 Peter 5:7 reminds us that God not only invites us to surrender our anxiety, but that He genuinely cares for us. This is not a distant deity demanding submission, but a loving Father ready to carry what we cannot. His care is personal, attentive, and steadfast.
Think about this: what areas of your life have you been trying to control? Is it your healing process, your relationships, your future, or your past mistakes? Each of these is a burden too heavy for you alone—but not too heavy for God.
Surrender is an act of faith—believing that God can be trusted with what matters most to us. It doesn’t mean we stop caring or become passive. Instead, we align our will with God’s, seeking His guidance, strength, and peace each step of the way.
